Getting there
Public Transit, cycling or walking are the best ways to enjoy the Celebration of Light from the prime viewing areas! Prime viewing areas include English Bay, Kits Point, Vanier Park, and various locations around the West End, Sunset Beach and Stanley Park.
Take Public Transit!
Additional transit services will be put into place to help with the large volume of transit users on event nights. www.translink.ca 2010 brings complimentary Bike Valet Parking to 3 convenient locations:
- Under Burrard Street bridge (near Vancouver Aquatic Centre)
- Second Beach Parking Lot
- King George Secondary School (Bidwell and Denman Sts)
- Bring your bike and beat the crowds!
Traffic Restrictions:
Vehicle access into the West End will be limited to residents who can prove residency through car registration or a resident permit parking decal from 7:30PM on event nights.
Vehicle access into Kits point will be limited to residents who can prove residency through car registration or a resident permit parking decal, from 6:00PM on event nights.
All other vehicles will not be allowed vehicle access into these two areas on event nights after closures. There will be strict enforcement of parking regulations in Resident Permit areas.
Please refer to the Road Closures map for resident access points into the restricted areas.
Parking for people with disabilities
- A valid disabled persons’ decal or placard is required and should be clearly displayed.
Users are still obligated to follow the usual payment requirements in the parking lots.
Motorists not displaying valid decals/placards
The following areas are RESERVED strictly for disabled persons’ parking on event nights:
West End
- Bidwell and Burnaby: on-street parking on east side of 1200 block Bidwell from Burnaby Street to the lane north; and both sides of 1200 and 1300 blocks Bidwell from Beach Avenue to Burnaby Street (from 5:00 p.m. on)
- Parks Board Administration Office parking lot at 2099 Beach Avenue (from 5:00 p.m. on)
Kits Point
- Limited number of stalls in the parking lot at Arbutus and McNicholl (from 5:00 p.m. on)
Parking is available on a first come first served basis. Early arrival is recommended.
