Why a festival of lights?

Light has always been equated with all the good things in life. Light is all about the truth, growth and revelation.

If you think about it, light is necessary for any kind of life on planet Earth. Without light, there would be no photosynthesis. Light is the energy that plants use to trap air into water to produce starch. In other words, this is the energy that they trap in the form of plant starch that makes life possible because animals eat that plant. Other animals eat other animals that eat the plant in the first place. It all begins with the Sun, and the light energy that it produces.

Light is life-giving. A festival of lights simply gives honor to the power of life in general. When we hold a festival where everything is lit up, and everybody celebrates the light in their community, as well as in their lives, they really uphold the very important things of life. They also uphold the process of life in general.

As mentioned above, light is the cornerstone or the bedrock of any living organism. Without light, life is just simply a non-starter on planet Earth, and probably other planets as well. It is the core building block that makes everything else possible as far as biological organism organisms are concerned.

Not surprisingly, anything that has to do with light is often viewed in positive terms. Regardless of where you go on the planet, the culture that you deal with, the people, and geographic orientations of those people, they have a special place in their heart for light. This is because ultimately, as biological beings, we can all recognize the importance light plays in, not only maintaining life, but at the same time, revealing the truth and highlighting certain information in our lives.

Light is amazing. It can play things up, reveal things, or highlight things. It operates on so many different levels. It’s so powerful. In fact, one of the most powerful forces on this planet is amplified light in the form of a laser.

A festival of light pretty much speaks to all these different concerns. It is ultimately a celebration of everything that is pure, uplifting, positive, empowering, enabling and encouraging about the human condition.

Let’s face it; we live in a dark world. That’s a reality that is not going to go away any time soon. There are many people who are negative, depressive, or flat-out destructive. Unfortunately, it doesn’t take much for all these negative forces to cause a lot of unnecessary pain, drama and loss.

Light is there to counteract all of that because light highlights to us, in no uncertain terms, that we are capable of so much more. Light also shows there are so many other things that enable us to add value to each other’s lives instead of engaging in some sort of zero-sum game where your game must necessarily be the loss of somebody else.

We step away from all of that when we celebrate the power of light both in terms of physical reality as well as a social and cultural reality. Ultimately, it’s a personal choice. Either you are part of the light and you share your light through sharing ideas, yourself and your time, or you become part of the problem.
